STRIP-IT - Design-It-Yourself Strip Quilting Fabric - Part II
Fabric by Faye Burgos Projects by Lisa Shepard Stewart
STRIP IT features (17) 2½" wide print sections running across the width of the fabric, allowing you to creatively cut and piece sections for a variety of special effects. We’ve come up with a few project ideas, shown here in high-contrast BLACK & WHITE. Try them in the black & white as shown, in neutral STRIP IT ELEMENTS, rich black-on-black NIGHTSCAPE, or in one of the new STRIP IT designs to coordinate with upcoming collections in the near future! Bargello Style Quilt - Cross-cut STRIP IT fabric into 3" wide strips.
- Reposition the strips, staggering each by one print to create a wave design as shown, or make your own arrangement. Sew using a ¼" seam allowance to maintain the 2.5" square design throughout.
- Square off the top & bottom (use these sections to make matching pillows!)
- Add your favorite NIGHTSCAPE inner border.
- Cross cut additional STRIP IT strips for the outer border.
- Layer, quilt and bind as desired.
Contemporary Bars Quilt - Cut three different sections of STRIP IT fabric.
- Add your favorite NIGHTSCAPE print(s) between the strips and at the outer edges.
- Complete with strips of NIGHSCAPE across the top and bottom.
- Layer, quilt and bind as desired.
Table Runner - Cut three STRIP IT squares, measuring 6 strips across by 15". Arrange them vertically, turning the center square so strips run horizontally.
- Cut two NIGHTSCAPE strips, 2.5" x 15" and sew them between the three STRIP IT squares. Cut two wider strips of NIGHTSCAPE, also 15" wide; sew these to top & bottom of runner.
- Finish the sides with NIGHTSCAPE. Add cross cuts of STRIP IT to the top & bottom.
- Layer, quilt & bind as desired.
Fancy Flying Geese Border - Try Strip It sections, either identical or varied, for interesting Flying Geese border effects.
- Use a coordinating print from your chosen Strip It collection for the background section of the geese design.
Pinwheel PillowQuilt Block - Cut four identical 45-degree triangles and join them as shown to create a stylized pinwheel effect, depending on where you cut the fabric.
- Try working from photocopies of the fabric, or a 90-degree angle mirrors, to test the effects before cutting the actual fabric. Then border it with your favorite coordinating Marcus print.
