Amelia
Beadle’s passion for hand-dyed fabrics began when she attended Houston
Quilt market (as a quilt shop owner) and Festival (as a quilter). She
purchased her very first pack of hand-dyed fabrics at what she felt was a
rather high price – the price rose higher still when she realized that she
had purchased fat-eighths, not fat quarters!
Later, she was inspired to create her own hand-dyes when
she read Vimala McClure’s article on the process, featured in the Fall ’95
issue of American Quilter. Amelia was hooked, and soon began teaching
the process, adding her own special touches & ingredients. “I have
become a dyeing fanatic and have taught many people all over the South, who
have gone on to become marvelous dyers, painters and art quilters!” she
says.
Seeing Amelia’s beautiful hand-dyed fabric quilts in her
shop, Amelia’s Marcus Fabrics sales rep suggested she contact Marcus
about developing a line. COLOR
WORKS brights and sherbet colors alike are hand-dyed in India, not
printed, with soft, flowing patterns. The colors are achieved with
commercial dyes for consistency and easy care. Amelia’s passion for
hand-dyed fabrics is apparent in the fabrics themselves! Use her wonderful
colors on their own, or use them as you would any texture print, mixing them
with your favorite Marcus collections for an exciting effect.
