Jeanne Poore
Jeanne PooreJeanne Poore is an internationally known quilting instructor, lecturer, designer and author. She has built her expertise around her Kansas upbringing and the Star quilt patterns. Jeanne specializes in redrafting original Star quilt designs for use by today's quilters, and shares her expertise through lectures and books. The Star's first official book on the patterns, Star Quilts: The Legendary Kansas City Star Quilt Patterns, featured patterns redrafted by Jeanne, and her quilts have been published in numerous magazines and books. In addition to the Star theme, she has also written books such as Santa's Parade of Nursery Rhymes, Fan Quilt Memories and Kansas Spirit.

Jeanne describes herself as an old-fashioned traditional quiltmaker who learned the craft from two grandmothers who shared their homegrown knowledge and love of quilting with her. A fourth-generation Kansas quilter, she remembers selecting feed sack fabric from the back porch of her maternal grandparents' farm home where she was born. Her maternal grandmother, Addah Vera Menzies, took her along to other farm homes where ladies gathered to quilt. She went to church quilting bees with her paternal grandmother, Mildred Bell Enfield, in Kansas City, where they also shared many hours in their homes quilting together. Her Grandma Enfield made quilts for most of her family-but not for Jeanne. When asked why, she explained that Jeanne would get all her sewing/quilting tools and fabrics, and all of her Kansas City Star patterns and unfinished quilt tops. Included in the collection were some tops from Jeanne's great grandmother.

Some of Jeanne's many professional affiliations include membership in various guilds, as well as the American Quilter's Society, the International Quilt Association, the National Quilt Association, and involvement in national quilting events, as a lecturer, instructor or quilt show judge.

She enjoys making old-fashioned traditional patterns using lots of fabric - "the more the better." She likes all the facets of the quiltmaking process, from designing to the hand quilting.
