Inspired by the Beautiful Work of Sue Garman
Paula Barnes pays tribute to our fellow fiber artist Sue Garman, whose passing in 2017 was a great loss for the quilting community. Sue's passion for expert handwork, appliqué and Baltimore style quilts - and the display of her work at Quilt Festival in 2017 -- inspired Paula's new collection of reds, greens, blues, golds and browns, a group that is sure to enhance any project.
Two statement designs highlight the collection, in perfect, all-important shades of Red, and both are expertly designed to be used yet they also invite fussy cutting, appliqué, broderie perse and other creative techniques. (1) The 45" Panel features a foursome of "appliquéd" baskets that can be used straight-on, or on-point. Areas of the printed design mimic beautiful hand-embroidered stitches reminiscent of Sue's work. By quilting around the motifs, quilters can achieve the look of authentic hand appliqué. (2) Paula's gorgeous Wide Stripe lends itself to much more than bold borders -- with four stripe repeats across the width, it lends itself to table settings, window valances, purses and accessories and much more... It's shown here as an impressive border on both of Red Crinoline Quilts'designs for the collection, shown below (patterns available through www.redcrinolinequilts.com).
