This just in... We were thrilled to receive an update on the popular Quilts of Valor project (QOV), spearheaded in 2010 by industry luminary Marianne Fons. At the time, Marcus was one of several fabric manufacturers invited to create a special fabric collection. QOV not only provides American active duty service people and veterans with the warming comfort of a handcrafted quilt, it also helps to create new quilters through its resources and volunteer leadership team.
Marianne reports that since the program launched just a few short years ago, growth has been swift and substantial:
- QOVF held its first leadership conference this past summer in Nebraska City, NE, bringing together leaders, coordinators, volunteers.
- Trademark applications for "Quilts of Valor Foundation" and "Under Our Wings" have been approved by the US Trademark & Patent Office.
- QOVF will benefit from the efforts of team of senior Marketing majors at Ohio State University, who will study the organization during its fall semester and present recommendations on marketing and strategy in early December.
- By early 2014, QOVF expects to have awarded its 100,000th quilt... and counting!
As the program flourishes, demand for patriotic fabrics also continues to grow. If you'd like to get involved, visit www.QOVF.org, and review our new LOVE & GLORY collection by Faye Burgos. You'll love the easy-to sew panel and coordinates, and we've got two great free projects to get you started.
You can get involved by making quilt tops, quilting and finishing quilt tops, hosting sew-days, donating fabric, donating finished quilts, and/or making a monetary contribution.
Congratulations to everyone at Quilts of Valor / Under Our Wings!
And Thank You to all of our active service people and veterans.
