Create-A-Room II
Throw Pillows

We’re happy to present the final project in our four-part Create-A-Room series. These throw pillows are accented with rag-edge seams for a cozy touch and lots of visual appeal. Keep them in the bedroom as a part of the complete ensemble, or try them in the den, living room, or anywhere you want a casual touch. Like the other pieces in our series, these were designed by Donie Mason, using our EMPRESS EXPRESS FLANNELS. Try this bedroom group in your favorite Marcus Fabrics flannel, from PLUSH PANSY to the new COLOR BRUSH FLANNELS for completely different looks!!

You'll Need
  • (8) assorted 6” fabric squares
  • (12) assorted 2” x 6” strips
  • (1) 6” remnant of muslin (for center block)
  • 17” x 17” square of fabric (for pillow back)
  • 1” bias strip maker
  • 16” pillow form
Woven Center Block
  1. To make the center woven block with the assorted 2”x 6” strips, begin by running the strips through the 1” bias bar, according to the bias bar tool instructions.
  2. With the 6” square of muslin placed on an ironing board, position 6 strips across. Weave in 6 strips down. Once in place press with iron and gently take to your machine.
  3. Run a seam across and down all rows to secure the woven strips in place.
  4. As shown in the photo, arrange the fabric squares around the woven block. Sew sections, wrong sides together, using ½’ seam allowances. Sew pillow front to pillow back, wrong sides together, leaving a10” opening to insert the pillow form.
  5. To create the rag effect: Cut within 2 threads of the seam, making cuts Ό” apart for a more ragged look. After the entire cutting is done, wet the seams with a spray bottle, then brush with a chenille brush or toothbrush. (Note: This creates lint, and is best done outside if possible.) Tumble dry on a warm setting to further “rag” the edges.
  6. Insert pillow form and sew the opening closed using small hand stitches.
