Castle Walls

This traditional frame quilt is made from four groups of fabric combined at random to create a scrappy look between single fabric borders.


Fabric for Group 1 - F204 -113D, F200-113D, F200-111D, F205-113D, F201-111D, F194 -113D, F201-113D, F204-111D, F197-113D, F197-114D , F196-113D.

Cut 1/3 yd of each of these 11 fabrics. Cut each fabric into 4 - 8 ½ x 8 ½" squares.

Fabric for Group 2 - F208-113D, F193-113D, F191-132D, F191-111D, F206-111D, F196-111D, F202-111D, F 193-111D, F192-111D, F199-113D, F208-111D"

Cut 1/3 yd of each of these 11 fabrics. Cut each fabric into 4 - 8 ½ x 8 ½" squares.

For Center: Make a 25 patch - 5 squares x 5 squares alternating 8 ½" x 8 ½" squares from group 1 & 2. All seams are ¼" seam allowance.

Border #1: Using fabric F205-114D cut 2 strips 2 ½" x 40 ½" for top & bottom borders & 2 strips 2 ½ "x 44 ½"for the side borders. You will need 3 yards total for quilt borders & binding

Fabric for Group #3 - F203-135D, F203-150D, F198-132D, F203-132D, F198-150D, F204-150D, F198-114D, F197-150D, F199-150D, F200-150D, F194-114D,F194-150D, F201-135D, F201-150D, F207-135D, F207-114D, F207-113D.

Cut one Fat ¼ each of these 18 fabrics. From each fat ¼, cut 1 strip 2 1/2" x 22" & one strip 4 ½" x 22". Cut 4 ½: strips into 4 ½" squares for border # 6

Fabrics for Group 4 - F208-114D, F191-114D, F208-150D, F193-150D, F206-114D, F196-150D, F192-114D, F193-114D, F202-150D, F196-114D, F199-135D, F195-135D, F202-114D, F195-150D, F192-150D, F191-150D, F195-114D, F199-114D.

Cut one Fat ¼ each of these 18 fabrics. From each fat ¼ , cut 1 strip 2 ½ " x 22" & one strip 4 ½" x 22". Cut 4 ½: strips into 4 ½" squares for border # 6

Border #2: Using one 2 ½" x 22" strip from group 3 & one 2 ½" x 22" strip from group 4, sew pairs of strips together pressing seam to dark side seam. Cut strip sets into 2 ½" segments.

Make 22 - 4 patches using 11 - 4 patches each for top & bottom borders.

Make 26 - 4 patches using 13 - 4 patches for each side border.

Border # 3: Using fabric F205-114D cut 2 strips 2 ½" x 52" for top & bottom borders & 2 strips 2 ½ "x 561/2" for the side borders.

Border # 4: Sew 7 alternates blocks of 8½" x 8 ½" squares from group 1 & 2 fabrics for top & bottom of next border. Sew 9 alternating blocks for each side border.

Border #5: Using fabric F205-114D, cut 2 - 2 ½" x 72 ½" strips for top & bottom borders. Cut 2 - 2 ½" x 76 ½" strips for the side borders.

Border #6: Using alternating 4 ½" x 4 ½"squares from group 3 & 4. Sew 19 squares together each for top & bottom borders. Sew 21 alternating 4 ½" squares each for side borders.

Border #7: Using fabric F205-114D cut 2 strips 2 ½" x 84 " top & bottom borders & 2 strips 2 ½ " x 88" for the side borders.

Quilt as desired. Bind using fabric F205-114D.
