Preparation
Pre-wash and iron all fabrics. Sew all seams with 1/4" seam allowances. Press seams as you sew.

Quilt Assembly
  1. Use the basting spray following the manufacturer's directions. Baste the back of all of the quarter round pieces cut from the template. Place each quarter round onto the designated square and press in place. Stitch on each side a scant 1/8" from edge using invisible monofilament thread to hold the quarter circles in place. Make 64 units. (See Figure 1.)
  2. Match sets of units to make four different color arrangements of the units to make blocks. Sew the units together. Make 16. (See Figure 2.)
  3. Sew the blocks together in rows arranging the four different color combinations in diagonal rows as shown in the row diagrams. Make 4 rows. Sew the rows together to complete the center of the quilt top. (See Figure 3.)
  4. Sew the vertical black borders to opposite sides of the quilt top. Sew the horizontal borders to the top and bottom of the quilt top.
  5. The horizontal borders at the top and bottom of the quilt are pieced together in sets of two. Match the vase motifs carefully, sew with 1/2" allowances and press seams open to minimize visibility of the seam joining. Cut to 62-1/2" size after border strips are joined. Make 2.
  6. Pin the vertical borders in place on opposite sides of the quilt top. Place and pin the horizontal borders on the top and bottom of the quilt so the joining of the seams to the vertical borders shows a minimum of matching patterns. Sew the vertical borders in place, then the horizontal borders. (See Figure 4.)

Finishing
  1. Layer the quilt top, batting and backing and baste together using basting spray. Quilt the layers together.
  2. Sew the binding strips short ends to short ends. Fold in half lengthwise and press the fold line. Match raw edges of binding to raw edges of quilt top. Sew in place. Turn folded edge to back and sew all around outside edges. (See the color image of the quilt.)
