Gallery In Red
by Jean Ann Wright

You'll love the subtle and sophisticated difference of in GALLERY IN RED, Faye Burgos' rendition of the current Redwork resurgence. It features soft ivory instead of white for a more upscale look, especially when used in Jean Ann Wright's simple but striking quilt design, which also incorporates coordinating Strip-It as the backing for a double-sided quilt effect!

Sewing
  1. Refer to the block diagram and make a Fair and Square block. Make 1 block with fabric C; 2 blocks with fabric E; 2 blocks with fabric F; 2 blocks with fabric G and 2 blocks with fabric H for a total of 9 blocks.
  2. Sew the blocks together in 3 rows of 3 blocks and 4 fabric D 3-1/2" x 18-1/2" sashing strips. Begin and end each row with a sashing strip. Refer to the color photograph of the quilt for block placement. The (1) block made with fabric C is in the center of the quilt. Press seams towards blocks.
  3. Sew the 3 horizontal rows of blocks together separating them with the 4 fabric D 3-1/2" x 66-1/2" horizontal sashing strips to complete the quilt center. Press seams towards blocks.
  4. Sew the fabric C vertical borders to opposite sides of the quilt center. Sew the fabric C horizontal borders to the top and bottom of the quilt center.
  5. Center and sew the 4" x 90" fabric B borders to each side of the quilt with an equal amount of border fabric overlapping at each end. Miter the corners and trim away excess fabric.

Finishing
  1. Layer the quilt top, batting and backing. Baste, then quilt the layers together.
  2. Fold the fabric F binding strips over lengthwise and press the fold line. Line up raw edges of binding with raw edges of quilt top and sew in place. Turn binding to back of quilt and stitch in place.
