“Itsy Fun” Quarter Square Triangles
Sew up a quick quilt with year-long appeal with Donie Mason’s easy “Itsy Fun” design, featuring ITSY BITSY with coordinating YARN DYED PLAIDS by Laura Wagner. Simple quarter square triangles are combined to optimize the bright tones of the micro-motif prints. Follow Donie’s lead with borders of fuchsia and lime, or choose your own favorite print twosome to frame the quilt.

You'll Need:
R22 ITSY BITSY and R07T ITSY BITSY YARN DYED PLAIDS
Assorted light and dark prints and plaids, cut to 6-7/8” squares
½ yard - 1st border (shown in lime)
1 yard - 2nd border (shown in fuchsia)
½ yard - binding (shown in blue)

Instructions
  1. Mark a diagonal line on each fabric square from corner to corner. This is your guide line for stitching.
  1. Pair up each light print with a dark print. With right sides together and the light square on top, stitch ¼” on each side of the line, as shown in Diagram #1.

  1. Cut directly on the line, between the two stitching lines. Press seam allowance toward the dark fabric. You now will have what is called ½ square triangles.
  1. Stack the ½ square triangles in two piles, lining up all edges evenly. Mark a diagonal line from corner to corner as shown in Diagram # 2.

  1. Repeat the first step, sewing ¼” from each side of the drawn line, then cutting them apart along the line, resulting in the square blocks. Once all squares completed, line them up in rows. (Donie’s quilt measures 11 squares across and 13 squares down.)
  2. Before adding the borders, be sure to measure through the center of your quilt from side to side to add the top and bottom border them press to the border and measure again from top to bottom for your side borders. Piece the border strips if needed. The first border is made of strips cut 2”. Be sure to re-measure through the center of the quilt top to add your second border in the same manner as the first border. Layer, bind and quilt as desired.
