This pretty quilt has a classic, timeless quality created with simple geometrics and calming neutral tones. Use Jean Ann Wright's combinations as shown, or adjust the print placements for your unique take on METRO GOES "AU NATUREL."

 
Fabric Requirements Cutting
Fabric A 1/3 yd J437-0112 floral (8) star points using template provided
Fabric B 2/3 yd J437-0141 floral (18) star points using template provided
Fabric C 1 yd J438-0112 tile (8) triangles using template, reversing (4) (6) 3" x wof strips, sew together end-to-end matching tile pattern at joins, then cut (4) 58-1/4" borders
Fabric D 1-1/4 yd J439-0141 stripe (4) fussy cut 6-1/2" x length of fabric strips, recut into (8) 19-1/4" pieces
Fabric E 1-3/4 yd J441-0112 floral stripe (8) 6-1/2" x wof strips, sew together end-to-end in sets of 2
Fabric F 2/3 yd J442-0112 dots (16) triangles using template, reversing (8)
Fabric G 1/3 yd J443-0112 floral (8) star points using template provided
Fabric H 1/2 yd J444-0141 diagonal stripe (2) 6-1/2" x wof strips, recut (8) 6-1/2" x 9-1/2" rectangles
Fabric I 1/4 yd J445-0112 texture (4) triangles using template, reversing (2). Cut (2) star points using template provided
Fabric J 1/2 yd J445-0141 texture (16) triangles using template, reversing (8)
Fabric K 1/2 yd J446-0141 paisley (5) 2-12" x wof strips, sew together end-to-end, then recut (2) vertical 48-1/2" borders and (2) 52-1/2" horizontal borders
Fabric L 1/4 yd J446-0112 paisley (4) triangles using template, reversing (2)
Fabric M 1/2 yd J449-0112 vine (8) triangles using template, reversing (4)
Fabric N 1 yd J449-0141 vine (16) triangles using template, reversing (8) Cut (6) 2" x wof strips, recut (2) vertical borders 57-1/2" long and (2) horizontal borders 60-1/2" long
Fabric O 2/3 yd J445-0144 texture (8) 2-1/4" x wof strips for binding, sew together end-to-end
Backing: 4-1/2 yd fabric L, cut in half from selvedge to selvedge to make (2) pieces, then sew together along selvedge edges. Cut to 76" square for quilt backing.

Note: In cutting "wof" indicates width of fabric.

Sewing
  1. star point triangle unitSew one triangle to left side of star point, then sew a reverse triangle to the right side of star point to make a large star point triangle unit. Make 4 units for each block following the fabric designations as indicated.

  1. Sew the fabric H rectangles together matching the stripes in a chevron pattern (see color image of quilt). Trim the rectangles to 6-1/2" x 12-1/2" with the joining seam in the center of the rectangles. Make 4 sets.
  2. Refer to the quilt diagram photo and sew the fabric H rectangles to one side of the four star blocks as indicated.
  3. Select the 4 star blocks in the outside corners of the quilt (refer to quilt diagram and photo). Sew a fabric D border strip to two adjacent sides of the blocks positioning the borders as shown in the diagram. Miter the corners and trim away excess fabric.
  4. Sew the quilt together in 3 vertical rows of 3 block units each as shown in the quilt diagram and photo.
  5. Sew the fabric K vertical borders to opposite sides of the quilt top, then the horizontal borders to the top and bottom of the quilt top.
  6. Center and sew the fabric C borders to each side of the quilt with an equal amount of border fabric overlapping at each end. Miter the corners and trim away excess fabric.
  7. Sew the fabric N borders in place in the same manner as step 6.
  8. Center and sew the fabric E borders to the quilt top in the same manner as step 7.

Finishing
  1. Layer the quilt top, batting and backing. Baste, then quilt the layers together.
  2. Fold the fabric O binding strips over lengthwise and sew to quilt top. Turn binding to back of quilt and stitch in place.
