Ribbons of
Love Pillow
October is Breast Cancer
Awareness Month, and we are pleased to offer a very special project,
design & sewn by quilting expert, Kaye Wood. We asked Kaye to
design a quick project featuring our Pink Ribbon flannel, which she
skillfully combined with coordinating Softy flannels by Marcus Fabrics, to create this comfy pieced pillow. (For details about
Kaye’s books and products, television show, special events and
more, visit Kaye
Wood online.) |
Remember, Marcus Fabrics is donating a portion of the proceeds from
sales of this fabric to worthy causes in the search for a cure. |
|
| YOU’LL NEED: (For a
12” square pillow) |
- R65 SOFTLY – E149-226D (Pink Ribbon Flannel)
- Assorted SOFTLY pink flannel prints
- Backing fabric 13” x 13” square
- 12” pillow form
- 1½ yards piping (optional)
- Starmaker™ 8 by Kaye Wood
|
| INSTRUCTIONS: |
- Cut each of the coordinating fabrics into (2)
strips, 1¼” wide, and (1) strip 1” wide.
- Fussy-cut pink ribbon designs. To do this,
place the Starmaker 8 with the 4 angle at the top of the ribbon
design. Keep the ribbon design inside the ¼” lines on the
Starmaker 8. Cut down to the 3 line along both sides of the
Starmaker 8.
|
 |
| Using a ruler, cut along the bottom of the triangle
exactly 3¼” from the top of the triangle. |
 |
- Sew the first strip to each side of the ribbon
triangles. Press the seam allowances toward the triangle. Trim
the two ends by placing the Starmaker 8 so it lines up with the
ends of the triangle.
|
 |
 |
- Sew the second strip to the first, right sides
together. Press seam allowances toward the first strip. Trim the
two ends with the Starmaker 8.
|
|
|
- Sew the third and fourth strips in the same
manner.
- Sew two blocks together, matching seam lines.
Press the seam allowances in opposite directions. Sew the four
blocks together; press the seam allowances open.
|
 |
- Sew three strips together for the borders.
Press the seam allowances toward the darker fabric. Sew to the
square, mitering the corners.
- Sew piping to the pillow top, using a
piping foot.
- Sew the pillow back to the front, using a
piping foot, along 3½ sides. Turn the pillow right side out
through the opening. Insert the pillow form and hand stitch the
opening closed.
