This quilt is composed of 32 blocks with a finished size of 12" and set on-point. Three different backgrounds are used to add interest. Use an accurate 1/4" seam allowance especially when constructing the nine patches!

Block Construction:
There are eight blocks that are colored similarly which are on the top and bottom rows of the quilt. To construct one of these blocks, cut as follows:

  • From N547-114T, cut two squares 4 7/8" x 4 7/8" and cut in half on the diagonal to form four piece A triangles. (One of these will not be used in the block).
  • From N546-150T, cut two squares 4 7/8" x 4 7/8" and cut in half on the diagonal to form four piece A triangles. Cut one square 5 1/4" x 5 1/4" and cut in half on both diagonals to form four Piece B triangles.
  • From N541-114T, cut one square 4 7/8" x 4 7/8" and cut in half on the diagonal to form two piece A triangles. (One of these will not be used in the block).
  • From any of the colored prints, cut one square 5 1/4" x 5 1/4" and cut in half on both diagonals to form four Piece B triangles. (You will only use two of the triangles in the block).
  • From a different colored print, cut two square 5 1/4" x 5 1/4" and cut in half on both diagonals to form four Piece B triangles. (You will use six of these triangles in the block.
  • From a third colored print, cut two squares 4 7/8" x 4 7/8" and cut in half on the diagonal to form four piece A triangles. (These are the large star points.)
Sew three of the Piece A background triangles to Piece A dark green triangles to form 3 half-square triangle units.

Sew the remaining Piece A background triangle to the Piece A green triangle to form an additional half-square triangle unit.

Sew a print quarter-square Piece B triangle to a background quarter-square Piece B triangle to form a larger triangle. Repeat to make 4 of these units. Then, sew the pieced triangle to the other colored large Piece A triangle.

Sew a color print quarter-square Piece B triangle to the remaining color print quarter-square Piece B triangle. Repeat with the last two triangles. Sew these units together to make a square.

Then, lay out the pieced squares as shown. Sew the squares into three rows & then sew the rows into a block.

Repeat to make a total of eight blocks using the light blue background print, the dark brown and the green corner triangles. Always use different color combinations for the star points and interior pieced square.

Using these same measurements & cutting directions, you'll also need to make twelve blocks using these colors. The primary difference with these blocks is the brown floral background print and the corner triangles:

  • From N547-114T, cut two squares 4 7/8" x 4 7/8" and cut in half on the diagonal to form four piece A triangles.
  • From N546-113T, cut two squares 4 7/8" x 4 7/8" and cut in half on the diagonal to form four piece A triangles. Cut one square 5 1/4" x 5 1/4" and cut in half on both diagonals to form four Piece B triangles.
  • From N541-114T, cut one square 4 7/8" x 4 7/8" and cut in half on the diagonal to form two piece A triangles.
Finally, make twelve blocks using this combination, including a green floral background print:

  • From N547-114T, cut two squares 4 7/8" x 4 7/8" and cut in half on the diagonal to form four piece A triangles.
  • From N546-114T, cut two squares 4 7/8" x 4 7/8" and cut in half on the diagonal to form four piece A triangles. Cut one square 5 1/4" x 5 1/4" and cut in half on both diagonals to form four Piece B triangles.
  • From N541-114T, cut one square 4 7/8" x 4 7/8" and cut in half on the diagonal to form two piece A triangles.
  • From a third colored print, cut two squares 4 7/8" x 4 7/8" and cut in half on the diagonal to form four piece A triangles
The setting triangles include a golden tan print and a corner triangle to continue the design of the quilt. Six corner triangles use the light green print, eight use the dark green print.
  • From N541-114T, cut three squares 4 7/8" x 4 7/8", cut in half on the diagonal
  • From N547-114T, cut four squares 4 7/8" x 4 7/8", cut in half on the diagonal
  • From N542-113, cut fourteen strips 6 1/8" x 18 1/8". Use the 45º markings on your ruler to cut both ends of the strip to form a parallelogram.
Sew a light green triangle on the short side of six of the parallelograms. Sew a dark green triangle on the short side of eight of the parallelograms.

Cut four corner triangles from N542-113. Cut two squares 9 3/8" x 9 3/8" and cut in half on the diagonal to form four triangles.

Layout the blocks as shown, with the blue background blocks on the top & bottom row. Alternate the green & brown background blocks in the center of the quilt. The quilt is sewn together in diagonal rows.

Measure the length of your quilt top. Cut 2" wide strips from N636-126T and piece them together to equal the length. Sew on the strips.

Measure the width of your quilt. Cut strips 2" wide from N636-126T and piece them together to equal the width. Sew on the strips.

Repeat this process cutting 6 1/2" wide strips of N549-113T for the outer border of the quilt. Bind with 2-1/2" wide strips of N552-113T.
