Simply Chic

The beauty of this collection by Michele D'Amore is its mix-and-match ease, in soft colors just right for winter-into spring and all year long. Jean Ann Wright's easy quilt design blends large blocks for a casual, "lived-in" cottage look. Follow her exact plan for color and placement, or substitute your own combinations for equally stunning results.

  • Sew all seams with 1/4" seam allowances.
  • Press seams as you sew.
Sewing
Simply Chic
  1. Block One - Sew a plain stripe rectangle to one side of a 6-1/2" square of the same color. Sew a green 2-1/2" green and rose texture squares to one end of the rose stripe rectangles. Sew this unit to the large square unit to complete the block.
Simply Chic
  1. Block Two - Sew aqua mono rose and green mono rose rectangles to the beige check rectangles. Make 9. Sew the beige mono rose rectangles to the green and aqua mono rose rectangles. Make 9.
Simply Chic
  1. Rows - Sew the blocks into rows. Each row has 6 blocks, 3 Blocks One and 3 Blocks Two. Sew 6 rows of blocks. Referring to the diagram, sew the rows together, alternating the direction of the blocks to make a checkerboard pattern (See Figure 3.)
  2. Borders - The borders are added in rounds. Sew border strips of the same fabrics together end to end. For each round add the vertical side borders first and trim to size, then add the top and bottom horizontal borders and trim to size. Sew the rose texture borders first, then the small scattered rose borders and then the beige texture borders. The final borders are the wide beige rose print borders.
Finishing
  1. Layer the quilt top, batting and backing and baste in place. Quilt the layers together.
  2. Sew the binding strips together end to end. Fold in half lengthwise and press the fold line. Match raw edges of binding to raw edges of quilt top. Sew in place. Turn folded edge to back and sew in place.
